I think for 2 reasons. They were afraid of his power, of what he is capable of doing. And also they was scared that he may do it again with there animals and if those were their livestock then that could jeopardize them. They did not accept that he is the son of God and the fact that he is God. Probably they aslo feared all their pigs would be finished as continue to cast out more demons and direct them to their animals. According to the gospel of John, the Light came into the world but the world recieved it not because its deeds were evil and would uncover them. Because Jesus made some thing new which they couldn`t think it would be;he bring a change, new things so this new things might eventually affect their life. I mean, these two people got free of devil`s bondage so what? and when the demons flee from the two guys they directly go to the herd of pigs and this finally resulted the death of herds which is opposed by the feedes.So, Jesus always does new things that couldn`t be accepted by human beings, that can touch every body`s life, that can shake systems and change traditions and beleifs of people that is why that asked him to depart from them. When he came to the
other side, into the country of the Gergesenes, two people possessed by
demons met him there, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that
nobody could pass that way. Behold, they cried out, saying,
"What do we have to do with you, Jesus, Son of God? Have you come
here to torment us before the time?" Now there was a herd of many pigs
feeding far away from them. The demons begged him, saying,
"If you cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of pigs."
He said to them, "Go!" They came out, and went into the herd of pigs: and behold, the whole
herd of pigs rushed down the cliff into the sea, and died in the water.
Those who fed them fled,
and went away into the city, and told everything, including what happened
to those who were possessed with demons. Behold, all the city came out to
meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged that he would depart from their
borders.
