Why did Jesus seem to discourage the Scribe and the disciple from following Him? Didn`t He want these two to join Him?
I think that he was just letting them know that if they choose to follow him then they will have to sacrifice life`s comforts such as a place to sleep. He wanted to make sure they were true and faithful and would give up those things to follow him.All of Life`s comforts are nothing if we recieve them without the Lord as our leader.

I dont think he wanted to discourage them. He was informing them that he doesn`t have a place to sleep. Therefore, it is up to them if they still want to go with him knowing that. I think he was trying to see how faitful they were.

Why did Jesus seem to discourage the Scribe and the disciple from following Him? Didn`t He want these two to join Him?
No, Jesus wanted them to follow him with genuine reasons to follow him. The scribe did not mean following him to listen to his teaching but to question his teaching. The disciple was more concerned with the dead and left alone the word of God. Jesus knows that the disciple coming alongside with him will get more recognized in God`s kingdom for knowing the savior. The dead here means those who don`t value his teachings but not the physically dead.

Why did Jesus seem to discourage the Scribe and the disciple from following Him? Didn`t He want these two to join Him?
Wouldnt say its` discouraging them but a warning that it`s not an easy path at all. Not even a purse just a stick. To be able to fully realy on God and leave your old life alltogether. Bury the dead - the dead can it be also a past life of sinfulness? always moviong on confessing our sins and burying them not carrying the burden. So that we are light and free like the birds trusting only in God. It`s a warning think well cause the road is narrow. Be yours a meditaed and thus a strenghtifyinmg on the way full yes.You feel Jesus waas really looking straight into their eyes.

The Cost of Following Jesus

Now when Jesus saw great multitudes around him, he gave the order to depart to the other side.
A scribe came, and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."
Another of his disciples said to him, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father."
But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead."
