Why did Jesus choose to obtain the stater from a fish rather than from a more conventional source of money?
Jesus was telling peter and all of us that if someone does nto work he is not to pay tax and that getting the stater from the fish means that some is to go fishing and after selling will be able to get the stater to pay tax.

Peter made a slip as a rabbi Jesus did not need to pay the tax but once Peter said yes that needed to be taken care of so Jesus rebuked Peter and volunteered to pay the temple tax.Thru this lesson we learn to voluntarily take care of our church. To begin with, the stater was worth twice the amount of the temple tax. By giving the stater, Jesus insured that He would not dishonor their toll or tribute. I think this was yet another example of His amazing power - He could have gotten this coin in any number of ways, but in telling Peter to get the coin this way, He shows His dominion over creatures of the sea.
