Why did Jesus choose to obtain the stater from a fish rather than from a more conventional source of money?
Jesus was telling peter and all of us that if someone does nto work he is not to pay tax and that getting the stater from the fish means that some is to go fishing and after selling will be able to get the stater to pay tax. lawrence

Why did Jesus choose to obtain the stater from a fish rather than from a more conventional source of money?
To teach us that we don`t have to worry or have anxiety in our responsibilities. With our belief and faith in Christ, we can trust God to provide for us and take care of our needs. A stater from a fish is a miracle from God.

Why did Jesus choose to obtain the stater from a fish rather than from a more conventional source of money?
Peter made a slip as a rabbi Jesus did not need to pay the tax but once Peter said yes that needed to be taken care of so Jesus rebuked Peter and volunteered to pay the temple tax.Thru this lesson we learn to voluntarily take care of our church.

Why did Jesus choose to obtain the stater from a fish rather than from a more conventional source of money?
To begin with, the stater was worth twice the amount of the temple tax. By giving the stater, Jesus insured that He would not dishonor their toll or tribute. He told Peter to get it from an impossible source, to once again prove that He was the Son of God.

Why did Jesus choose to obtain the stater from a fish rather than from a more conventional source of money?
I think this was yet another example of His amazing power - He could have gotten this coin in any number of ways, but in telling Peter to get the coin this way, He shows His dominion over creatures of the sea. As is true with so much of His teaching, there is more than one lesson for us to seek from this scripture.

The Temple Tax

When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins came to Peter, and said, "Doesn't your teacher pay the didrachma?" He said, "Yes."
When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?"
Peter said to him, "From strangers."
Jesus said to him, "Therefore the children are exempt. But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you."
